A Woman

I Met A Woman

I Met A Woman
Bright, witty; a delight
Her life open and nothing to hide
Shared her pain, joy and time

Clear to all, happy is she
But happy is a shell for you to see
Inside is a truth, too much to share
As days passed she stored it there

I met a woman
Bright, witty; a delight
She blinded me with jokes, redirected me with banter
In hopes I would not see inside her

I met a woman
Whose shell was cracked
Cracked from all the weight of masked laughter
The laughter was pain sifted from banter
Unrestrained banter that made her wonder
Wonder how long, how long until quiet and safe is all around her

I met a woman
Bright, witty; a delight
Whose shell was cracked; exposing her light
